2005 was a year of intense activities: support to families which were victims of the Paris fires, Katrina in New Orleans, brutal treatment of sub- Saharan African immigrants in Spain, the debate on the memory of slavery and colonialism, and northern Africa, and the riots in the suburbs. The BBC and CNN constantly consulted us during the riots.

The fires, riots, and the heated debate on the memory of the past encourage us to believe that France is at the threshold of profound changes. The political, economic, social, and cultural presence on Black people can no longer be ignored.

The current debate on the memory of the past was unthinkable 10 years ago. Our patience and steadfastness has paid off.

Our active presence on the ground throughout these crises has reinforced our standing locally, regionally and internationally.
